Day 1 - Pentagon 9/11 Memorial

The contemporary style of the memorial definitely inspires thought and reflection.

A bench for each victim of the attack. Some point towards the Pentagon (representing flight victims) while others face out  (representing victims in the building).

  1. The 911 memorial really hit me it took me back to where I was when the 2 towers were hit along with the pentagon. I liked this the most of day! Hit close to home. Nick.

    1. Got that right. You can't come here and not think back to where you were and what you were doing when 911 rocked the country.

  2. I definitely did some heavy reflecting here. I sat on Rodney dickens' memorial and googled his biography. He was in 6th grade when he died on his way to California with a school teacher. --Lexi Bohan

    1. I think when you pulled up his biography and putting an actual name and identity to the bench really enhanced the experience. It helped me come to the realization that these were not just names but actual people who died. I didn't feel that same sense of humanity at any other monuments while on the trip.

  3. Today was my first time seeing the seen where nine eleven happened. I used a method in class we learned called pathos which feelings is one of them. They guy who did thid does not represent islam and Muslims. It only represent him. I feel bad for those who died. I hope things change in the future and no more terror attack.

    2. I agree as well. It is such a unique and beautiful concept for a memorial, but it probably is very confusing for new people who visit it without knowing the background information. Once you understand why it is set up the way it is, I think it makes it even more meaningful.

  5. This memorial I think would be my favorite out of all on the trip, and mainly because i was actually alive when the events took place. The abstract nature and the attention to detail from the architect portray this tragedy in a unique and emotional way. Seeing how the benches have an actual function but are designed in a way that adds interest and wonderment to the viewer. I somehow sat on the bench from a boy who would be the same age as me if he wouldn't have been on the plane. That coincidence I think kind of sealed the deal of how much I like this monument.
